Euclid's Kei'Shjuan Telfair Commits to Penn State, Becomes First Panther to Go Big Ten in Two Decades

Kei'Shjuan Telfair is Big Ten bound — and the road to Penn State ran straight through Euclid.

The Euclid High School standout committed to Penn State football on April 19, making him the first Panther to land a Big Ten commitment since Thaddeus Gibson signed with Ohio State in 2006. Ranked No. 4 in Ohio for the Class of 2027, Telfair is also Penn State's top-rated defensive prospect in the recruiting class, according to ESPN.

More than 40 Division I programs came calling. Clemson, Miami, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, North Carolina, Arkansas and Auburn all offered scholarships. Penn State got there first, extending a Power 4 offer in October 2024, and ultimately won the race.

Listed at 6-foot, 160–165 pounds, Telfair plays both sides of the ball and handles punting duties for the Panthers. His junior-year stat line tells the story of a player who dominates every phase: 29 catches for 600 yards and nine touchdowns on offense; four interceptions, 20 tackles, two pass breakups and two fumble recoveries on defense; and two more touchdowns on special teams returns.

Head coach Damion Creel, now in his third year leading Euclid's program after arriving from Lorain in early 2024, put it simply: "When he has the ball in his hands, he makes plays. Great players just make great plays."

But Creel sees Telfair's impact beyond the highlight reel. "What I do know is he has raised the bar for the kids around him," he said. "He's showing what he can do and showing what's possible here. He's special."

What's possible here — that phrase carries weight in a city that doesn't always get credit for the talent it develops. Euclid's athletic infrastructure backs up the claim. The Panthers play home games at Euclid Community Stadium, the 7,000-seat facility with artificial turf and a video scoreboard that opened in 2017. The school's broader athletic complex includes two gymnasiums, three turf fields, an indoor pool, and indoor and outdoor track facilities — resources that rival programs across the Greater Cleveland Conference.

And Telfair isn't the only Panther headed to the next level. Six Euclid football players committed to college programs on National Signing Day 2025, landing at Hocking College, Heidelberg University, SUNY Erie and John Carroll University. Munir Lewis, another recent standout, committed to Louisville, another Division I/FBS program.

Telfair is currently playing his senior season this fall. A Class of 2027 recruit planning to graduate early, he is expected to sign during a National Letter of Intent period and join the Nittany Lions for the spring 2028 semester.

Twenty years between Big Ten commitments is a long wait. How many more years Euclid has to wait for the next one may depend on whether the pipeline Creel and this community are building can keep producing players at this level.
